All content 2006 Divinely Uninspired Games

I. General Information:
This game is freeware, meaning you can distribute it to whomever you wish just so long as you do not charge money for it, you include this readme, and you do not edit it or the .exe in any way.

This game was made using the following tools:
Game Maker 6.1
Microsoft Paint
Anvil Studio

All graphics, music, sound and coding were done by me.

II. Requirements:
To run this game, your PC will probably need:
Windows OS
DirectX 8 or better
Support for 640x480 resolution
Decent memory, video card and processor.

III. The Story:
You are 82-year-old Zebediah Smith, a farmer who moonlights as an inventor for the Department of Defense. One warm summer night, a fleet of relentless aliens descends upon your hometown. Without hesitation, you run into your barn, descend into your secret basement laboratory, and pull out your latest inventions (a pair of remote controlled energy cannons). These extra-terrestrials have picked the wrong boring mid-West town to mess with, you think, and gleefully rub your wizened hands together.

IV. How to Play:
The game is controlled entirely using the mouse. Moving the mouse up and down controls the gun on the side of the screen, while moving the mouse side to side controls the one on the bottom. Pressing the left mouse button fires the side gun, while the right button fires the bottom gun. Your goal is to protect the city and its panicked citizens from certain destruction. The city begins with a population of 3000. If it reaches zero, you lose and your mission is a failure. Simple, right?

Occasionally, enemies will drop powerups when destroyed. These can be picked up by the bottom turret, and will either give upgrades to one or both turrets, or do something else.

V. Tips:
You can shoot bombs in midair. This is difficult, but helpful if you can manage it.

It is much easier to shoot down oncoming ships with the side gun than the bottom one.

It's easiest to shoot down bombs with the laser.

Shrapnel from explosions kills citizens. Keep this in mind when using bombs, which produce shrapnel when they hit a target.

The shield powerup offers temporary protection against alien bullets, but the aliens themselves can pass through it, as can the UFO Beam.

VI. Version History:
08/31/06 v. 1.0 first release.
09/02/06 v. 1.1 tweaked some of the visual effects, fixed a couple small errors, added Color Mode, highscore, and two bonuses (Shield and +Population).
09/07/06 v. 1.2 fixed an annoying bug (to some extent), tweaked the visuals some more, and made the bullets slightly faster and larger.
7/16/07 v. 1.2v added Windows Vista compatibility.
